Principlesin interior design
Studying design is a lifelong journey, but understanding its fundamental principles is something you can achieve in just a few minutes. Below we list the seven principles of design that can be used to configure any composition, whether it’s a product, a space, or an entire building.
Balance.
A feeling of balance is achieved when elements are arranged symmetrically to create an impression of evenly distributed weight or emphasis. Balance can be intentionally ignored or inverted to force a sense of asymmetry or imbalance.

Rhythm.
Recurring elements in a pattern used to direct the eye through the artwork. There are five kinds of rhythm: random, regular, alternating, progressive, and flowing; each of which describe a different pattern in which elements are organized to lead the eye to a focal area.

Emphasis..
A feature within a design that attracts the eye – the focal point. Emphasis can be achieved through the size, shape, placement, or color of an element as it contrasts with others, or it can be achieved by through the surrounding context with lines or concentric circles that bring Emphasis to the element.

Proportion & Scale..
The relationship between distinct objects with respect to size and quantity, including the relation between discreet parts of a whole. Some ratios are commonly used across all design, like the ratio of 3:5, otherwise known as the golden mean.

Movement.
In design, the concept of movement can mean the literal motion of an object or animation, but most often refers to the implication of motion in a static feature. Movement can be demonstrated through repetition, lines, distortion, blurring and many other ways.

Contrast.
The juxtaposition of different elements of design. For example, dark and light values or rough and smooth texture are both examples of contrasting pairs. Contrast is often used to highlight differences between elements, create visual interest, or a serve as a focal point.

Unity.
Unity is achieved by the consistent use of lines, color, material, and texture within a design. As its name implies, the purpose of unity is to bring cohesion to a design, and justify the existance of all elements in a composition by giving them a collective identity.
