Harmonizing Sound and Style: White Oaks Wealth Advisors at The Colonnade

When White Oaks Wealth Advisors moved into their prestigious Suite at The Colonnade in Minneapolis, they were met with a classic architectural dilemma. The office featured stunning high-volume ceilings and expansive views, but these structural triumphs created an acoustic nightmare of reflective surfaces and echoing halls.

Helped brought to life by Twin City Acoustics, this project is a masterclass in how parametric design and biophilia can transform a “loud” professional suite into a serene, high-performance workspace.

The Challenge: A Modern Echo Chamber

The primary obstacle was the “echo chamber” effect caused by the building’s original architecture. The suite featured a ceiling composed of highly reflective materials—including gypsum board, plaster, and painted concrete—with little to no sound absorption.

Because of the large, uninterrupted ceiling planes and long corridors characteristic of The Colonnade, sound waves from the floor bounced unimpeded, leading to long reverberation times. For a premier financial firm, this lacked the privacy and acoustic comfort essential for high-level consulting.

Design Intent & Technical Precision

The design team envisioned a seamless blend of sound absorption and architectural elegance. However, the project faced a complex engineering hurdle regarding the parametric baffles. The client expressed critical concerns regarding the consistency of the “double sinusoidal waveform”—a sophisticated “wave” pattern intended to guide the eye through the lobby.

To resolve these technical worries, CSI Creative utilized advanced 3D modeling to ensure the “amplitude” and “wavelength” remained uniform across the floor plan. By using eight standardized waveforms, we ensured the pattern remained consistent even as it moved from the wide lobby into narrower corridors.

The Solution: Acoustic Fluidity

CSI Creative delivered a comprehensive suite of Soundcore® acoustic solutions to master the space:

Site-Specific Engineering: When a conflict arose with full-height doors, we provided 2-inch deep tiles to ensure functional door swings without sacrificing the design aesthetic.
Geometric Fluidity: We installed Soundcore Single Baffles featuring a custom “swell” design that creates a rhythmic, organic flow throughout the lobby and halls.
Conforming Wellness Baffles: In the Wellness Room, baffles were custom-engineered to conform to the radius of the space, maintaining a perfectly curved architectural finish.
Custom Baffle Clouds: Massive Soundcore Waffle Clouds—including a custom 168-inch diameter centerpiece—were integrated to break up large ceiling planes and “trap” sound in collaborative zones.
Folded Grid Systems: For private offices, we utilized Soundcore Folded Grids in varying heights (2″, 4″, and 6″) to create a dynamic, 3D textured ceiling that provides superior acoustic privacy.

Living Biophilia

To ground the modern geometry, the plan integrated a signature living green wall by our sister brand, Plantscape Live, alongside lush plants. Unlike synthetic alternatives, this living wall actively improves air quality and provides a dynamic focal point that addresses both the auditory and visual well-being of the employees.

The result is a flagship Minneapolis office that sounds as good as it looks—where complex geometry meets peaceful, living productivity.
